As part of its support to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in moving the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda forward, UNESCO organized a regional forum on TVET in SADC countries, under the theme “Monitoring Progress and Revitalizing Actions”. The Forum took place on 26-28 November 2013 at the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa.

The forum was organized around five themes through plenary and working group sessions. There was also a special session on progress in implementing UNESCO’s programmes in TVET in the region, especially a capacity building training workshop for technicians on wastewater treatment using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to be facilitated by UNESCO’s Hydro free and/or Open-source software Platform of Experts (HOPE) initiative.

 Workshop content:

  • Introduction to dynamic modeling;
  • General description of STOAT functionality;
  • Overview of using STOAT to build and run a model [Constructing a model, Sizing, Running, Outputs];
  • Description of different processes and mathematical models;
  • Exercise (hands on).
